Dear Junior High Parents, I am excited that your child has chosen to be a member of the Silver Lake FFA Chapter this school year. As FFA members they will have the opportunity to volunteer with activities throughout the year and recieve FFA points. These points will go towards high school FFA activities such as going to State and National FFA Convention, leadership workshops, etc. As our FFA Chapter continues to grow we can only allow so many students to attend. So, being active in junior high can help to reserve a spot for these activities in the future. Your child can also participate in the following events during the school year and recieve FFA points. There will be sign up sheets for these events at our monthly meetings during breakfast: November 6th @ Kearney- Junior High Quiz Bowl (During the school day) November 16th @ Kearney- Pathways to Careers (Saturday) January 22nd @ Aurora- Junior High Speaking Contest (present a speech or be on the parliamentary procedure team) (During the school day) February 28th & 29th @ Kearney- 212/360 Conference (8th graders only) (Friday night and Saturday) Learn more about these events at https://www.education.ne.gov/nce/leadership-conferences/ If your child would like to participate in these events please encourage them to sign up. However, I do expect them to show responsibility and attend the activities that they choose to sign up for. This is extremely important because the Silver Lake FFA Chapter will be paying their cost of the days activities which comes from our fundraising activities. If they cannot attend after they have signed up they will need to find someone to replace them or pay the cost of the workshop out of your own pocket. Also, new this year, we will have a junior high FFA officer team to help with junior high activities and prepare them for a future role as a high school FFA officer. Junior high members that are interested will need to sign up with Mrs. Curlo by September 13th. This year’s 8th graders can apply by February 13th, 2020 at midnight for a high school FFA officer position. The Officer application is found on our FFA website. I would encourage your child to fill out the application well in advance. Their FFA Officer duties would begin in May 2020. Please contact me with any questions throughout the year at 402-756-6611 or at [email protected] Sincerely, Mrs. Curlo 7-12 Agriculture Teacher 7-12 FFA Advisor
