Silver Lake held and celebrated its 5th Annual FFA Banquet on Thursday, March 21, 2019. Mrs. Curlo and her students spent the day preparing and decorating the gym with the FFA colors of national blue and corn gold. There were around 76 guests and 39 members in attendance at the banquet to support the Silver Lake FFA Chapter and review the last 5 years full of memories and dedication to the agriculture industry. To start out the night, chicken cordon bleu, salad, potatoes, rolls, cake, and drinks were served to the guests by Junior High FFA members. Then, President Taran Hansen took to the stage and the speaking events started. Marie Meis, the Nebraska FFA Vice President, joined the banquet and gave a speech about perseverance. Next, a series of acknowledgments, awards, and degrees were given out. This year was the start of junior high ag classes. Junior High members who were involved with the chapter in and out of the classroom were eligible for the Discovery Degree. Members who earned their Discovery Degree include Samantha Bonifas, Georgi TenBensel, Lexi Wengler, Taylor Hanson, Lana Swanson, Ashley Bonifas, Brooklyn Meyer, Kassi Jones, Morgan Dinkler, Madison Karr, Rehgan Miller, Eric Blythe, and Reagan Rust. Tyler Cumpston, Max Hammer, Brock Karr, Katelyn Karr, Trista Hanson, and Natalia Cassell were recognized for receiving their Greenhand Degrees. The Greenhand Degree is a symbol of accomplishments and further growth within the FFA organization and personal qualities. Grace Niemeyer received the Honorary Greenhand Degree. After showing hard work and being involved greatly with the chapter, Tyler Cumpston earned the Star Greenhand Award. Jaden Lewis received the Leadership Award for showing courage, integrity, optimism effective communication, encouragement of self-development, values, preparation, confidence, organization, creativity, willingness to work with others, and above all respect. Next, a group of officers made and showed a presentation to the audience to reflect on the events that members participated in in the past year. At the end of the banquet, the new officers for the year 2019-2020 were announced. Tyler Cumpston was named President, Jaden Lewis-Vice President, Trista Hanson-Secretary, A.J. Niemeyer-Treasurer, Samantha Bonifas-Reporter, Makayla Dinkler-Sentinel, and Madison Miller-Parliamentarian. In the past 5 years, the growth of the Silver Lake FFA Chapter has been outstanding. As the future of
agriculture is held by the members, they will continue to prosper and learn.
